Charlotte Tilbury: Joyphoria

I have hundreds of perfume samples, miniatures and decants. In a mission to fairly assess all of them I’m starting a Reviewing Random Samples series of posts, inspired by the numerous perfume reviewers I’ve spotted doing the same via video on social media.

The first scent I drew was Joyphoria from Charlotte Tilbury. I expect anyone who has purchased in person from Charlotte’s stores in the UK has been slipped this sample. I believe I have three of them, so this is a free sample that came with an in-store purchase… most likely of her magic eye cream.

There is a brightness to opening of Joyphoria, the white florals hit me first with neroli and tuberose notes being very present, though they settle quickly into the powdery musk notes on the skin with a sweet hint of ylang-ylang and light jasmine.

It’s an easily approachable fragrance, it isn’t too challenging but has a cheerfulness to it. Certainly feminine leaning, and the powdery notes give it a very clean tone there’s an almost lotion-like element to it.

The Notes

  • Top notes: Neroli, coconut water, petitgrain oil

  • Heart notes: Ylang-ylang, tuberose, jasmine sambac

  • Base notes: Vanilla Bean extract, cashmere wood, musk, powdery notes

Projection & Longevity
On the skin, Joyphoria has decent longevity, from my dinky 1.5ml sample it lasted circa 6 hours on the skin, though the silage (that lovely scent trail) started at an arms length and lasted around two hours before becoming a skin scent.

Who is it for?
Joyphoria is for those who enjoy an easy to wear fragrance that has a bright, clean charm. It’s not especially daring or divisive and won’t suit those who crave a bit of drama from their scent. Suitable for someone new to fragrance as is little to dislike.

Final Thoughts
I like it, but I didn’t love it. It is a steady performer that smells nice, lasts respectively long, will instil some confidence in the wearer and won’t offend anyone. Equally, it’s not going to be a compliment getter and it lacks the twists and turns that make a memorable fragrance.

It is an easy go-to scent for a casual wearer. If you like creamy white florals with a bright opener this is worth your time.
